(AP) San Antonio, TX: "Today is a brand new day. Today starts off with a bang. Today, is the beginning of tomorrow. My name is ballinhun8 and I am the new General Manager of the San Antonio Spurs. I know this organization is used to winning and is the standard of excellence in most sports and I intend to keep it that way. When I was told I was going to be the new GM, I was ecstatic. I couldn't think of a better team to start off with. With most of the core players intact from the teams that won in '03, '05, & '07, I know that coach Pop and his players will be able to help smooth the transition of new management." "We are now ready to answer the press' questions."

lol
Reporter: You have all starters and a few more additions from last years #1 seeded Spurs, but yet you are not currently in the playoffs. Why do you think your team has fallen from the 1 seed to the 12th seed?

That's a good question you handsome young man.
Well, I know we have 3/5th of the starters back but we don't have some key bench players from last year's squad who I cannot name at the moment. I also think it has a lot to do with us not having enough depth on the bench. No disrespect to our players but some just aren't stepping their game up. And most importantly, I just see the West getting tougher and a lot of teams improved over the off-season while this team had no GM for key events in the off-season like the Draft and Free Agency as well as Training Camps.
Good question.
"Next question...yes...in between the two NY Post reporters"

With Duncan and Manu obviously getting older, are you looking to make a trade like the Celtics did when they acquired Garnett, trading off future firsts and a couple young, solid players for that last key player at possibly improving enough to make a run in the next couple years before those guys retire?

Well, that's a good question. Duncan is getting a bit older but we feel that's playing better now more then ever and Manu is only 30 so he's still got at least 4-5 good years ahead of him. But yes, we are looking to get pieces to accompany are guys and help us win a championship as soon as possible. We think we even might have a chance to surprise some people and make it the playoffs. With us playing better and adding some players to our team, I could see us making a run and definitely having a better season next year when we actually have a GM for the off-season.

With the recent drafting of Brook Lopez and the acquisition of Joe Johnson, the Spurs are now ready to talk to the press about the upcoming Free Agency and the new season.

Do you think Brook Lopez is good enough to become your permanent starting Center? And what are your plans for the FA process? Seeing that you're still lacking at the 2 spot and overall depth.

Well, as of now, we do have Brook penciled in as the starting Center and we believe he is good enough. Playing alongside a guy like Tim Duncan should warrant Brook some open looks that we hope he can take advantage of. Now plans could change as the season goes. We do have a solid veteran backup in Alonzo Mourning so in case Brook struggles, he can learn from sitting on the bench and providing quality backup time.
Our plans in Free Agency our as follows; Re-sign Joey Graham to fill our hole at the wing. And if that fails, sign the best available Free Agent who happens to play the wing and a backup PG. We believe we can get Graham back. He's a prowl while on defense and will let Joe Johnson slide into the 2 spot where he and Tony can share ballhandling duties. We do need to sign some veteran backups though and we hope to get at least two in Free Agency.
